Dr. Murray I. Mantell, Professor Emeritus, University of Miami

Dr. Murray Mantell was the founding chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Miami where he taught for 57 years. During this period, he received a national award for outstanding teaching and a British Admiralty Commendation for engineering achievement. He has been very active in civic and professional affairs, serving on a number of city and county boards, national committees, and as past chapter president of four professional societies. Dr. Mantell is the author of nine books. His first textbook, published in l955, was adopted by over 200 universities and community colleges. In l964, he authored the first textbook related to engineering ethics. His forthcoming book on ethics, published at 93 years old, was written for a general audience with the intent of providing guidance for everyday living.
