Bhagwan Mahavir Junior Faculty Fellowships

Call for proposals from junior faculty in all fields:

BHAGWAN MAHAVIR JUNIOR FACULTY SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS

Junior faculty members in any field are invited to apply for the newly established Bhagwan Mahavir Junior Faculty Summer Fellowship. The Fellow will receive airfare between Miami and India and an internal travel stipend from the Bhagwan Mahavir Professorship. Hospitality throughout India will be provided through Jain Vishwa Bharati University in Ladnun, Rajasthan.

The purpose of the fellowship is to provide FIU faculty members at early stages in their career with an immersion in Jainism and introductions to colleagues at a variety of institutions in India. The purpose is to gain a Jain perspective on the fellow’s field of study. It is hoped these experiences might evolve into teaching and research interests. There is no restriction as to field, but among the possibilities are Religious Studies, Anthropology, Literature, Women’s Studies, Asian Studies, Business or Entrepreneurship, Architecture, Social Work, Education, Development Studies, Economics, Philosophy, etc.

One fellowship will be awarded for summer 2011.

A statement of interests should be sent to Nathan Katz, Bhagwan Mahavir Professor, at Nathan.katz@fiu.edu, by March 1, 2011. Fellowship awards will be announced by March 7, 2011.
